Gary Shoemaker is the Executive Director, CEO, and co-owner of A.B. Counseling. A Registered Nurse with over 30 years of experience in the mental health field, Gary has devoted 27 years to treating dual diagnosis and substance abuse. He has worked closely with numerous psychiatrists monitoring client needs for medication and progress. Gary is an Approved Treatment Provider (ATP) with the State of Colorado Department of Corrections specializing in Anger Management, Substance Abuse Treatment, and Adult Crisis Intervention.
Gary provides substance abuse treatment for individuals and groups at A.B. Counseling. He facilitates Relapse Prevention and Offender-Specific Relapse Prevention groups as well as Level-II Education and Therapy for clients with impaired driving charges. Gary offers in-state and out-of-state substance abuse and mental health evaluations. He is also a qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) who provides Department of Transportation assessments, evaluations, and treatment for determination of successful compliance and an employee's return to sensitive safety duty.
Gary was the Founder and Director of the Wheat Ridge Coalition, Governor Romer's Gang Task Force, and was the Co-Founder and President of the Nurses of Colorado Corporation. Nurses of Colorado Corp., now known as Peer Assistance Services, is the largest organization in Colorado working with impaired professionals. Gary is a community educator, public speaker, and expert witness in the field of addictions.
